Streamlining communication at the launch of Volotea’s new Catalonia-Marche flight route: BBLTranslation’s consecutive interpreting services

BBL Translation

In a globalised world, the connection between regions is not only limited by air routes, but also by linguistic and cultural understanding. In this context, BBLTranslation played a key role in the press conference held on November 20th, in which the airline Volotea presented its new route, operational since November 8th, connecting Catalonia with the Italian region of Marche. The event featured notable participants, including Andrea Maria Antonini, Regional Councillor for Agriculture; Stefania Bussoletti, Director of the Department of Economic Development of the Marche Region and Director of ATM (Regional Tourism Agency); Hamish De Run Nihal Malcolm, President of Ancona International Airport; and Federica Falzetta, Secretary General of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona.

A linguistic bridge for a new air connection

Catalonia and the Marche region in central-eastern Italy are now closer than ever, thanks to a new direct flight connecting Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat and Ancona airports. The journey takes just 1 hour and 30 minutes, with an initial schedule of two flights per week (on Mondays and Fridays). Operated by Volotea, this new route opens up a world of possibilities for both entrepreneurs and tourists. It has been an important element in the plan to relaunch Marche’s business landscape and hopes to attract travellers interested in one of the most captivating destinations in Italy, known for its rich cultural tradition, its extraordinary gastronomy, and its impressive natural heritage. The Marche is in fact one of the most beautiful regions in Italy, rich in its landscapes typical of central Italy. Tourists from the Marche will, in turn, have a direct connection with one of the major European tourist cities: Barcelona.

As the largest organic district in Europe, Marche is a leader in the organic food, reflecting its commitment to sustainability, support for local trade, and respect for its natural resources. Given its position at the forefront of sustainable agriculture, Marche makes the ideal destination for lovers of environmentally conscious and high-quality gastronomy which combines tradition and respect for the environment.

Given that the 9th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World was being held this week, with the theme ‘Mediterranean Diet and Recipes from our Roots: Health and Tradition’, attendees were treated to a sampling of authentic and flavoursome Italian cuisine after the press conference. Cooked by Chef Daniele Citeroni Maurizi, guests were able to try: the iconic ciauscolo, a traditional sausage with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI); the olives all’Ascolana, stuffed and fried olives with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO); vincisgrassi, a typical lasagne of the region; coniglio in porchetta, baked rabbit; and renowned local cheeses, such as the caciotta of Urbino or the pecorino di fossa, a cave-aged sheep’s cheese.

Consecutive interpreting: a key to understanding

The success of international events, such as the presentation of this new air route between Catalonia and Marche, depends, to a large extent, on clear and concise communication. In this context, BBLTranslation’s team played an essential role, providing consecutive interpreting services from Italian to Spanish and English to Spanish, ensuring that all speeches, presentations and questions from the press were communicated smoothly, overcoming language barriers.

Consecutive interpreting is a highly demanding procedure that requires linguistic, technical, and cultural skills. It is an essential tool, with which BBLTranslation’s interpreters bridged the gap between two languages and cultures, listening carefully to segments of speeches, taking detailed notes, and accurately reproducing the original message in the target language. This technique not only demands a high level of proficiency in both languages, but also the ability to understand cultural nuances, technical terminology, and the overall context of the event to ensure that the message is conveyed precisely and appropriately.

In addition, consecutive interpreting brings a slower pace to speeches, allowing audiences on both sides to better process the information. This approach was particularly valuable in this instance, as it allowed representatives from Catalonia and Marche to fully grasp key issues such as the economic and tourism impacts of the new air route, opportunities for cultural exchange, as well as prospects for future collaboration.

BBLTranslation’s team ensured that every word, idea, and concept was understood and conveyed with the utmost precision. At the same time, the interpreters managed to capture and convey the speakers’ emotions and emphasis, fostering a stronger connection between the participants and attendees.

Promoting cultural and economic exchange

The new connection between Barcelona and Ancona promises not only to bring travellers closer to the Marche region, but also to strengthen economic, tourist, and cultural ties between Catalonia and Italy. Thanks to BBLTranslation’s efforts, those attending the event were able to comprehend the significance and positive impact of this new route, which seeks to position both regions as premier destinations for tourism and business.
